joung yu mi
Born in Korea in 1981, Joung Yumi studied Fine Arts at Kookmin University (2000-2004), during which her works appeared in two exhibitions, <Mind Map> and <Ill Liquid>. She subsequently studied Animation Directing at Korean Academy of Film Arts (2004-2006). Joung’s graduation short animation, <My Small Doll House> has been screened in the Competition section at Hiroshima International Animation Festival and at many other international film festivals.

In 2009, Joung wrote and directed the short animation, <Dust Kid>, which has been screened at Cannes Directors’ Fortnight and over 50 other international film festivals, and received more than 10 international awards. <Dust Kid> has so far been broadcast by Arte TV and Televisió de Catalunya, and screened at theaters in France. It has also been screened at several art museums, sometimes in altered formats.

In 2010 Joung wrote and directed the short animation, <Math Test>, which was invited to the official short film competition section at Berlin International Film Festival, and to several other international film festivals. <Math Test>, too, has been broadcast by Arte TV.

In 2011, Joung created two picture books: one based on Dust Kid; the other an original “picture diary” of paintings and text titled <Paranoid Kid>. Both books are currently on sale in France, Germany, the UK, Spain and Columbia.

In 2013, Joung wrote and directed the short animation, <Love Games>. Love Games will have its international première at the official short film competition section at Berlin International Film Festival in 10th February 2013.
